Bedroom Soundproofing and Feature Wall

Abandoned ductwork in the wall between two bedrooms led to unacceptable levels of sound transmission. To remedy this, drywall on one side of the wall was removed and the ductwork removed. Sound deadening insulation was then installed within the wall cavity. Two layers of high density (fire-rated) 5/8" drywall were installed with a viscoelastic sound deadening compound between the layers. Tongue-and-groove pine planks were then installed. The planks were stained using a diluted black paint to give a clean, modern look. Recessed lighting was installed to wash the wall with light to reveal the unique texture of the stained pine. Electrical circuits in the room were upgraded to meet modern electrical code requirements by replacing ungrounded outlets and feeds with properly grounded, tamper-resistant outlets. The entire room, including ceiling were repainted.
