Living Room Tables

Livingroom furniture of appropriate size and style were not available, so I designed stainless steel frames and paired them with oak tops. Frame drawings were made up and bids were solicited from local fabrication shops. Once the frames were complete, oak counter tops were used as the table surfaces. In order to maximize the yield from a single piece of countertop, I employed floating tenons which fit into mortises routed into the end grain. This gave substantial strength to the joint, allowing all table surfaces to be created from one sheet, with matching grain direction. Tops were finished in a water-based polyurethane to best preserve the original oak colour.
