Water Supply and Purification System

Potable water pumping, storage, and distribution system for rural property without access to city water. The water source is from a shore well at the lake located 15 metres below the point of service entry to the house. Being located in a freezing climate and unable to bury the supply pipe below the frost line necessitated the need for an internal water storage tank. A 1900 L freestanding storage tank was selected as it provided the best balance between physical size and capacity for the application, ensuring appropriate tank cycle times to avoid water being stagnant for too long. A well pump moves water from the lake level through a progressive series of particulate and media filters and through an ultraviolet disinfectant system before entering the storage tank. The tank is filled by manually activating the well pump when getting low. A vacuum breaker allows the water line from the well into the building to drain, preventing blockages in freezing temperatures. The outlet of the water storage tank is connected to a pressure tank and water supply pump to provide water pressure to the house. Water leaving the tank once again passes through the ultraviolet system before entering the house fixture supply piping. Distribution manifolds for both hot and cold water were built allowing for isolation of individual fixtures and minimizing pressure drop when multiple fixtures are running simultaneously. The system contains takeoffs at various points to sample the water and has been tested to pass drinking water quality standards in the jurisdiction.
